Holiday Parks in the Lake District and Cumbria

More Info graphic

The Lake District is one of the most popular areas of the country for holidays and short breaks. It has 12 of the largest lakes in England that combine with beautiful mountains or fells as they are known locally that result in one of the most beautiful landscapes. The largest lake is Windermere, while other renowned ones include Coniston Water and Derwent Water.

The most popular destination is near Windermere and it's twin towns of Bowness-on-Windermere, the original settlement in the area and Windermere. This is where most visitors come for boat trips and it also has attractions which include the the World of Beatrix Potter museum and the Windermere Steamboat Museum (currently closed for renovation).

Ambleside is located on the northern shores of Windermere and is another pretty town to visit. Although there are warlier settlements in the area, the town mostly dates from the Victorian period. Close to Ambleside is Stock Ghyll Force, a 70 feet waterfall.

Kendall is another town to visit and is known as the gateway to the lakes and once home to Alfred Wainwright, the first person to write a walking guide the fells and lakes, which is depicted in the Kendall museum.

Keswick is also a fine market town to visit, set next to Coniston Water and has stunning walks and views.

The most famous historical resident of the Lake District was the poet William Wordsworth and there are a number of places to visit related to him, such as one of his former homes in Grasmere.

There are also some nice beaches to visit in the Lake District area, either near Barrow-in-Furnace on the south coast or on the west coast.

Cumbria has more to offer than the Lake District, such as the beautiful coast near the Solway Firth and interesting places such as the county town of Carlisle.

Cumbria has a good selection of Caravan Parks and Holiday Lodges parks to enjoy a holiday in the beautiful Lake District. Click on the park name to view the details.
